Once upon a time there was a book of photographs. A book like no other. Born from a series of photographs taken during a very “Karate” photo shoot, the book has taken on an important dimension in the Japanese style. A few kanji (Japanese ideograms), a
kotowaza
(Japanese proverb in a few ideograms) but also fifty pages of karate kata photographs. Thus, a photo box respecting an Asian aesthetic was required.
In a first impression of the photographs, we had chosen an extremely durable paper made of bamboo fibers, from the well-known manufacturer Hahnemühle®. One thing was obvious: for the box, only one type of wood would be chosen: bamboo. Authentic and handmade, our box of photographs would come from a distant workshop and would be of first quality. Nice surprise, this one was even more precious than we expected.
Our Maison Audacieuse-Galerie is a photography studio, but also has a tailor-made sewing workshop. The
kotowaza
, among the karatekas, are found on the belt. The idea only went around once: our box would be in the image of the karateka, adorned with a black belt, embroidered Karate Do.

Vectorization and embroidery.
A little less authentic, it is the computer and the embroiderer that will finish this last step. We are in the 21st century and the seamstress’s tools are very modern. A first software will vectorize the ideograms and a second will draw the path of the embroiderer. The finish will be all handmade. A result against all odds, to the delight of our customer and friend.
