Photographer of buildings, interior and exterior architecture.

Architectural photography may seem trivial, basic or easy to do. Think again, it's quite the opposite. Our photographer composes with the environment, the nature, the urban spirit. Then comes the moment of retouching and editorial preparation. A whole art to adapt according to the expected result.

Good weather for architectural photography.

Except for a particular stylistic effect, a building photograph will not sell as well under grey skies. A building with a little sunshine, some shrubs, a hint of nature, a beautiful blue sky, and it is already something else. So you have to wait for the right day to take the pictures. Patience... and perseverance. In the architectural photograph below, a set of clouds and their reflections make the tower smoke. The evening colors are brought back to a slightly less warm midday light. The pillars are straightened vertically.

A maximum of distance to play with the distortions of perspective in architectural photography.

In the city of Geneva or the old town of Geneva with its very narrow streets, it is sometimes quite complicated. However, we have our little tricks. Nothing too secret for those who know the profession of photographer:

The combination of photographs when there is not the necessary distance to the architecture.

Imagine yourself at the foot of a 6-storey building, with a distance of only 3m from the building, the width of a pedestrian street. Three times nothing. The top floor is not visible from below. This is an extreme case, but not that rare. With a lot of hard work, we get a picture of the whole building. Hop, let's go for a visit of all the floors of the building opposite. A viewpoint here, another there, and by dint of working with the tenants and the caretaker, we obtain a puzzle to be reassembled on the computer. 3D straightening, corrected perspectives, and our puzzle takes shape just as well as reality. Another option: the mast or the drone when the tenants do not open their doors.

A straightening of optical and computer perspectives.

How does the photographer get a whole building to stand up straight in a photograph, without any distortion of the wide-angle optics? To correct the perspectives of an architectural photograph, the photographer "bends the neck" of his optics. Don't imagine that we force anything, we work with a very particular material: the camera or the decentring lens. On a standard camera, the photographic planes are parallel. Imagine that we move the angle of these planes, and that this rectifies the perspectives... this is the magic of this material. The finishing will be done under computer to correct the small lack of a few degrees. Another option is to use a very high definition camera, 100 Mb of pixels at least, and to correct the whole image on computer.
