Stéphan: Caroline, can you tell us about your arrival at the workshop?
Caroline: As soon as I walked through the door of the workshop in Carouge, I felt an atmosphere that was both warm and professional. The air smelled faintly of new fabric and freshly ironed canvas. The machines and serger were ready to use. I immediately had this impression: here, you learn to sew seriously, but without pressure.
First steps and discoveries in sewing
Stéphan: And your first manipulations?
Caroline: We started by touching the fabrics, feeling the difference between a rigid cotton and a light silk. We manipulated the tools, cut, traced and tried small finishes. And then there was this little thread that got tangled up and made us burst out laughing. The exchanges with the other participants and the instructor are invaluable: you learn as much from others as from the technique taught.
Creating your first jacket in a group sewing class
Stéphan: Did you make a complete piece during the lessons?
Caroline: Yes! My first jacket. I had picked up a three-meter coupon bought at the market, a perfect fabric to experiment with. Cutting, assembling, adjusting… Every gesture was a real pleasure. When the jacket started to take shape on the mannequin, I felt a real sense of pride. And that funny little moment where I flipped a room and everyone laughed made the experience memorable.

Stéphan: What do you like the most?
Caroline: The atmosphere! Everything is professional: sewing machines, serger, professional ironing boards. But it is the exchanges and conviviality that make each session special. We experiment, we share, we laugh… And we leave with unique creations and practical tips to continue to progress.
