Over the Glass

This photograph captures a special place, where the peasants maintained the gardens and the interior of the monastery. Hubert Barre took this image from Cyprian, a monk, who knows the place well. He regularly comes to this secret place, to contemplate, to worship, but also to observe this house: a monastic enclosure, a prayerful environment, reserved for God and the monks. Everything has its meaning, the light on the window, the staircase, the window frame, the monk's shadow in the brightness of the light, the floor, the volume of the room, and finally the framing, which lets the objects appear in proportion. Hubert Barre, Photographer, thinks it is important to focus on the technique that will give a little more depth to the image. This photograph represents one of the secret places of the monastery, forbidden to the public. This place touched Hubert, because it is very close to nature, right next to the lavender fields and the vineyard. This place enjoys a fantastic peace.
