Retour au Carnaval, “Oraci”

The oraci (ploughmen) wear colorful ribbons and costumes, while pushing a symbolic plough festooned with decorations. On the plough are a man and woman doll, symbolizing springtime and new beginnings of the fertile season. In one village, if no wedding is scheduled, a different ceremony happens, where unmarried women ritualistically “marry” a tree and carry the log around from house to house.
